A Brief History

In 1962, David Ristau graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Accounting. He soon went to work as a Revenue Agent for the IRS. After four years, he was transferred from the San Francisco Bay Area to Modesto. David had requested the transfer because he realized that while owning a home in San Francisco was prohibitive, Modesto was affordable. His wage would remain the same. It was the right choice for the young family man.

David continued to work for the IRS in Modesto until he was offered a position, three years later, as a public accountant with Arthur Kalunian. David accepted the offer and worked for Mr. Kalunian until 1972, when he opened the doors to his own accounting practice.

It wasn't long before David outgrew his first office at 1400 K Street, and moved to 324 Burney Street. Judie Brimmer and Keith Cherry joined David on Burney Street and the practice continued to grow. In 1979, Ristau & Co. migrated to our current location at 101 College Avenue at the corner of College and Needham, in downtown Modesto.
